What About Winter Curb Appeal
If you are planning to sell your home this winter, don't forget about curb appeal.
Winter is a good time to get your home on the market at a time when it won't be lost in the shuffle. The total inventory is lower, so if folks are out looking, chances are good that they will see yours. Buyers seem to be higher quality in the winter, not that they are actually better people, just that they are serious about buying a home soon. Who else would want to go out in freezing temps to look at a bunch of homes?
When preparing your home for sale, and while it is on the market, you will want to pay attention to a few things on the exterior, since curb appeal still matters. While you wont have to mow and water, there are some things you can do to make your home look great on the outside.
Stay Safe: A nice blanket of snow makes your home look like a winter dream. But that can turn into a nightmare if the buyer shave to walk through knee-deep snow drifts just to see the house. Make sure the driveway and walkways are clear of snow and ice. It will make the buyers feel welcome and safe.
Keep it Tidy: For those days that don't have a cover of snow, make sure the lawn is free of leaves and other debris. That way buyers can get an idea of what it might look like in the spring and summer.
Freshen up: If it's not too cold yet where you are, consider a fresh coat of paint. When trees and lose their leaves, your home is even more exposed and cracked or faded paint will be all the more noticeable.
Brighten up: It get's dark earlier in the winter, so those evening showings may need a boost of light. Make sure your exterior lighting is in good repair and has good coverage. It will make the home look like a welcoming beacon.
Just remember that first impressions matter. If your home looks warm and inviting on a cold winter day, you are likely to find a buyer faster and hopefully get your full asking price for the home.
